The Ones You Should…

Many years back, before I became a mom, I had my eyes set on these two events. I can proudly say that I am able to cross one out from the list and put a smily face next to it, but the second one remains unattempted. I’ve constantly heard about these “ultras” for the past five to six years and it has all been thanks to my adrenaline junkie mom. Because I am from South America, I would like to share with you two of the ultra-marathons my mother and I consider fun, challenging, and captivating.

 El Cruce Columbia

It consists on crossing Los Andes -from Chile to Argentina, or vice versa-, in pairs or individually, in a period of three days and covering over 100km. The route changes every year, allowing the runners to explore the diversity of the area. You’ll stay at different campgrounds and have the opportunity to run across volcanos, mountains, forests, lakes, etc. It is a great event if you are looking for adventure and a chance to share with the diverse running community. The next edition will be held on Dec. 2018.

El-Cruce-big

La Mision Race

If you have been longing to visit Argentina, do so by exploring 110, 160, or 200km of its Patagonia in a period of 80hrs. If you are up to the task, be prepared to endure extreme and changing weather conditions and to carry all of your essentials with you. This is a self-sufficiency race, meaning that you will be responsible for yourself and your basic needs between aid stations. You will only count with one station in both the 110, and 160 distances and two for the 200. If you appreciate solitude, do not mind forests at night, and enjoy being challenged; this is the race for you ! The next edition will be held on San Martin de Los Andes, on Feb. 2018.

  1. You are amazing! I am still at the half marathon stage and am finding those challenging enough for me at this point. You will get all your boxes checked, I have no doubt! 🙂

  2. This must be the most gruelling race I’ve ever read about and watched. Never knew there’s a race across such landscape exceeding 100km. Thanks for sharing and congrats again for completing the race. It’s so good it’s beyond words!!

  4. What beautiful landscape you have tread upon. As I have returned to pedal work in everday life and opted for trains rather than planes, I do enjoy reading and seeing images of places far off. Good luck and if you get a chance, check out some of the lates “hope spots” from Dr. Sylvia Earle from Mission Blue. Take care, Jesera
