Award Season

Bscotch

I’d like to thank Krista (Allezgirl) and Ryan (Zen and The Art of Climbing) for helping to make this award into a reality, I’d also like to thank my co-writers at theDIHEDRAL for humoring me and accepting this award from us to us!

Here is our acceptance in Q&A form.

  1. If you could get Mountain House (freeze dried food company) to turn any one dinner into a packaged freeze dried meal in which you could “Savor the adventure” on the trail, which would it be?
    • Carrot: Can I get a Pizza on a portaledge?
    • Casen: Mashed Potatoes and Roast Beef
    • Sarah: Curry
    • Gaia: Tres Leches, please ? Wait… This is not a meal.
  2. Following the example of Bryden Allen (the inventor of the carrot bolt), you decide to create an innovative new form of protection using only the equipment in your Dad’s tool shed. What do you use?
    • Carrot: I remember my Dad’s tool shed, it had a roll of duct tape, a coffee can filled with mismatched screws, a bike chain, and a box of Playboy Magazines.  So, my options are limited, but if you break your arm or sprain your ankle, you are getting the sexiest sling the world has ever known!
    • Casen: The toolshed at my house is horribly disorganized, so I probably can’t find anything to make a coherent device.
    • Sarah: My dad never had a shed, but he did have a garage shop and only he was allowed in.
    • Gaia: My dad didn’t have a tool shed. Does this mean I fall into the abyss ?
  3. What moment (intentional or not) during any of your adventures would put you in the running for a Darwin Award?
    • Carrot: Let’s just say that when you’re camping, leaving the can of insect repellent too close to the fire makes for an unsavory alarm!
    • Casen: One time when I was a little boy I shot a BB gun straight at a Metal Pipe and it WHIZZED past my face. I almost lost an eye, or worse!
    • Sarah: Probably the time I had to dig a cat hole when hiking. And dug one next to a snake hole. (Found out while using my cat hole)
    • Gaia: Running barefoot on the beach, then putting your shoes on with wet feet without any socks on. Did I mention the sand was rocks?
  4. What food comes to mind when you think of Australia? Canada? The United States
    • Carrot: Meat Pie/Poutine/Hot Dogs
    • Casen: Sharks/Maple Syrup/Hamburgers
    • Sarah: Seafood/Hockey Food/Eh?
    • Gaia: Exotic Fish/Pancakes and Maple Syrup/Hamburgers
  5. What is the best type of rock to climb and why? Wrong answers only.
    • Carrot: Wet Sandstone!
    • Casen: Overhanging Yosemite Granite.
    • Sarah: Granite.
    • Gaia: Countertop Granite.
  6. How would you explain “van living by choice” without sounding like a hippy
    • Carrot: Van living by choice is essentially exactly like being a hippy, except there is less patchouli.
    • Casen: Its cheap! Also you can live by the crag.
    • Sarah: It’s more convenient! Your life goes with you.
    • Gaia: Not possible, I’m a hippie.
  7. You’re going on a hike with three other people alive or dead, who are they?
    • Carrot: Friedrich Nietzsche/Hunter S. Thompson/Henry David Thorea
    • Casen: Ryan Booth (videographer), Casey Neistat (videographer), Alexander Hamilton (old dead guy)
    • Sarah: Sartre/Jackson pollock/Irvin Yalom.
    • Gaia: My son, my future grandchild, my future great-grandchild. I’ll be forever young.
  8. Name the best piece of crag booty you’ve ever scored?
    • Carrot: I found over $2,000 worth of cash in a softbound pink pencil case that had the word “Saucy” in bold letters on the outside.  There was small address book inside and the first listing was “mi telefono” I called the number and it was an abuela who didn’t speak english, she handed the phone to her granddaughter…They were crying tears of joy when we met up and gave them the money back.  It was all they had on their move to Arizona. Student loans be damned, it pays to be a good person.
    • Casen: I found a quickdraw once.
    • Sarah: Nothing 😦
    • Gaia: How can you come up with something better than Carrot’s finding ?! My son found a sketchy looking glove once ?
  9. Where do you see yourself in 10 years in terms of climbing endeavours/abilities
    • Carrot: Hammock/Trails/Rocks (Insect repellent away from the fire)
    • Casen: Hopefully I have not fallen off of a cliff
    • Sarah: Hopefully getting more outside than inside experience.
    • Gaia: Please, let me climb more than twice a month/year!
