Stay Laser Focused

Max Maisonneuve is a fighter.

Real climbing is about falling over and over and over again. You can go on Youtube and watch really good climbers send really hard routes all day, but falling is just a fact of life. Even for the good climbers.

All climbers fall. In fact, I’d say we fall about 10x more than we finish a route.

From the moment Max grabs the first hold on a line, you know he’s not gonna quit. A passion for climbing and overcoming obstacles is evident in the way he trains and performs.

When you want something so bad, failure can have a strong bite.

“Am I just not good enough?”

“What am I missing?”

“What do I have to do to climb this route?”

All impassioned people fight these battles.

Today I’d like to tell you. DON’T quit! Whatever you are passionate about, keep going! Stay laser focused on your goals, and don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it. Get out of your own head, and start using your thoughts to encourage yourself. Wake up earlier if you have to, but make time for the things you love.

Work harder, be driven, stay focused, and remember that it’s only in your head!

Please, tell me a little about what you are passionate about below. Of course, I’d also love it if you’d share this blog. You can do that by clicking the icons below.

Also, if you are NOT a climber, did you enjoy watching the video? Often times, climbing videos are only entertaining to well… climbers. We are trying to overcome that hurdle and give you something you find interesting.

Until next time!

  1. As a non climber I can attest that this is one of the more interesting videos (to me) visually appealing and to the point :-))) some really cool shots in there.

  2. good video. Moved back into trad climbing this summer – we are after all having such a spectacular summer this year! Terrified of falling! Moved from 5.10 in sport/indoor climbing back down for trad to 5.6 – 5.7 at a stretch. But always onwards and upwards 🙂

  3. Your videos have been excellent! I’ve always admired rock climbing. A friend of mine still climbs and trains on a regular basis after work and I always wondered where he gets the energy. I’ve found that it all boils down to how passionate you are about something. You’ll make the time for it if it’s in your blood.

  4. As a non-climber ( but a wannabe), the video was great! The focus is a lot like boxing. Lose focus on the rock, you fall. Lose focus on your partner when you box, you get hit. Focus on the fact that you just got hit, you get hit again.
Outside of boxing and climbing, my current focus is riding to West Yellowstone tomorrow. Beyond that, Boston awaits.
