There are climbing gyms in Bali, and I was fortunate enough to visit one of them for a couple hours prior to hopping on a plane.
Klimb and its sister gym Monk Climbing Gym are intimate locations with world class-setting and a worldwide community.
The location couldn’t be better. Situated in stunning Canggu, Klimb is right in the heart of some of Bali’s most beautiful attractions. Despite being drawn in every direction by the beauty and magic of Bali, a climber’s got to climb.
While Klimb isn’t going to break any records in terms of sq meters, they manage to fill every cm with excellent routes, majestic ambiance, and a thriving community.
Upon entry, climbers are greeted by a friendly knowledgeable clerk, ready to help situate guests and on-lookers alike. There are shoe rentals for those in need, and a fridge full of water for those who may have failed to plan ahead. The music sets the vibe, and the overall style is inviting.
There is a small lounge as you walk in, a place to lace up, stretch out, or just chill. To the right of the lounge area is the about 40 sq meters of space. Three and a half walls of excellent routes which include a beautiful overhang, a bit of slab, and some nice vertical walls. Really there is something for everyone! There are also a good number of volumes which certainly add a level of freshness to the overall layout of the gym with each new set.
In terms of the setting, it was fantastic! Routes at Klimb can go toe to toe with any gym I have ever been to in the world. There was creativity, diversity, challenge, and most importantly fun!
I am not typically a boulderer, and so I was so pleasantly surprised to find a truly spectacular endurance wall. This wall can be used as a spray wall, but additionally, it has three distinct routes of 30 moves a piece. Each route was a little more challenging than the previous (I would grade the easiest at about the 5.7/5.8 range, and the most difficult in the 5.11 range). I loved trying to string all three of the routes together for a super 90 move route of increasing difficulty.
In the end I my only regret was that I didn’t have more time to project some routes as I was just going for volume, but I can say that if you are a climber visiting Bali, you will love this gym. She is but though small, but she is mighty!
I had a blast, and I strongly recommend a visit whether you are on vacation or just passing through!
