Intro
Meet Logan Gardener, a climber, teacher, and all-around jokester from Durham, UK, who somehow makes gravity look optional. Between teaching classes, drawing clever climbing tees for her Etsy shop, and perfecting her boulder beta, Logan manages to mix humor with hard sends. In this interview, she shares how a summer job sparked a lifelong passion for climbing, the story behind her handmade designs, and why grapes might just be the ultimate crag snack.

Falling into Climbing
Q: How did you get into climbing?
A: Fell into it really (get it?). I worked in an Adventure Department at Camp America, and there was a ropes wall, which was pretty cool. The next summer I ended up mountaineering in the Dolomites, which was extremely cool. Then I went to a social at a climbing gym, and that was it. Fully addicted. No recovery plan.
Q: How long have you been climbing for?
A: Trees? My whole life. Plastic rocks? Not very long.
Q: What do you do for a living?
A: I teach classes on how to “just go up,” so basically best job ever. When I’m not munching chalk I’m pretending gravity is optional. I just finished uni and figured if the world’s upside down in Australia, I might finally send.
The Art of Climbing and Creating
Q: What is your Etsy shop’s name, and when did you start it?
A: It’s called ProjectPrintss. I started it just a couple of weeks ago.
Q: What do you sell in your Etsy shop?
A: I sell climbing T-shirts! I hand-draw all the graphics on my iPad and turn fun jokes from around the gym into cool shirts that people actually want to wear.
Climbing Style and Preferences
Q: What is your favorite type of climbing?
A: Bouldering.
Q: What is your home climbing gym? And where is it located?
A: Durham Climbing Centre — also where I work.
Q: Who do you usually like to climb with? And why?
A: People that flash my projects. Nothing like a little “healthy frustration” to push harder.
Q: What music do you usually like to listen to when you climb?
A: For slab, I go with sad music. For overhangs, it’s full hype party mix.
Off the Wall
Q: What do you like to do outside of climbing?
A: Haha, good joke.
Q: If you were a fruit, which one would you be? And why?
A: Grapes. They’re the best climbing snack. I’d say fight me on this, but I’ll just throw grapes at you.
Q: If you could have dinner with anybody dead or alive, who would it be? And what would you have?
A: Marie Antoinette, because there’s guaranteed cake.
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
A: Torres del Paine, Patagonia. Just google it.
Just for Fun
Q: If you were a rock climbing hold, which one would you be? And why?
A: Have you seen the holds that look like baby’s heads? I’d want to be that, but I’d actually be a volume.
Q: What TV show would you want to be a guest on? And why?
A: Rick and Morty — no gravity.
Q: What is a fact about you people would be surprised to find out?
A: My first job was a beekeeper.
