Chelsea Fender Martinez Interview

Career & Work Life

Q: What do you do for a living?

A: I have many jobs! I work full-time remotely in tax advising, I work events at the Four Seasons Resort Orlando, I’m a performer, and I also work at Obstacle Ninja Academy.

Q: How did you get into that?

A: I’ve been doing the remote job and Four Seasons events for a few years, but I started performing and doing ninja about three years ago. My husband began working at the ninja gym, and I became obsessed.

Ninja Warrior Journey

Q: How long have you been doing ninja warrior?

A: I’ve been doing ninja on and off for about three years now.

Q: How did you get into ninja warrior?

A: I grew up watching the show but never thought I’d be capable of doing it. I took a few classes and fell in love.

Q: What gym do you train at?

A: I train at Obstacle Ninja Academy but love traveling to any out-of-town gyms when I can.

Rock Climbing & Acro

Q: How long have you been rock climbing for? And how did you start?

A: About three years now. A friend suggested I try it, and I immediately fell in love with climbing.

Q: How long have you been doing acro?

A: Around 3.5 years.

Q: How did you get into acro?

A: My first acro class was at a festival. I thought it was regular yoga, but it turned out to be partner acrobatics. I went solo, but it was so fun learning new tricks. I’ve been building acro and acrobatics skills ever since with the intention of performing one day.

Accomplishments

Q: What are some of your accomplishments and achievements in ninja and acro?

A:

  • Competed in multiple local ninja competitions
  • Competed at the World Ninja League World Championship
  • Taught many people that you don’t need a sports background to start ninja or acro
  • Helped others learn acro and ninja from scratch and gain confidence

Food Blogging

Q: What is your food blog called?

A: My food blog is called Chelseatz.

Q: How did you start your food blog?

A: I started it for fun in 2019. After a year or two, a restaurant reached out for a collaboration, and I didn’t even know that was a thing. After that, more restaurants contacted me, and now I plan to expand outside Orlando and promote local activities as well.

Fun Questions

Q: If you were a ninja obstacle, which one would you be? And why?

A: I’d be Devil Steps. I love the climbing aspect, and it was one of the first obstacles I learned.

Q: If you were a food, what food would you be? And why?

A: A taco—there are so many variations, but all are great!

Q: What is your favorite part of being a performer?

A: Creating the magic of an event. I love taking photos with guests and seeing the excitement from attendees.

Q: Where has been your favorite place to perform so far? And where would you like to perform one day? And why?

A: I loved performing for EDC Orlando. I’ve attended the festival for 10 years, so being part of the behind-the-scenes magic was incredible. I’ve only done character work so far, but I dream of being one of the dancers on stage.

Q: If you could eat with any celebrity dead or alive, who would it be? And what would you eat?

A: Lady Gaga. I grew up watching her perform and love her self-expression. I’d take her out for sushi.

Q: What is a fact about you that people would be surprised to find out?

A: I wasn’t always active. I didn’t grow up playing sports and was overweight. During COVID, I committed to diet and workouts, which kickstarted my fitness journey. I went from couch potato to a woman of many talents—but most people assume I grew up already active.
