Career & Engineering

Q: What do you do for a living?

A: I am a civil engineer—a highway designer.

Q: How long have you been doing that, and what certifications or degrees do you have?

A: I’ve been doing this for over ten years. I graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a minor in Mathematics. I also have my Professional Engineer (PE) license.

I’m additionally a certified Traffic Control Design Specialist, which means I design plans for how traffic will safely and efficiently move through construction zones.

Q: What are some accomplishments in your work so far?

A: Obtaining my PE license was a major career highlight. One of the exams is eight hours long, and the amount of studying required was intense, but it was absolutely worth it. Having my PE license allows me to sign and seal my own plans, which is huge.

At this point in my career, some of the highways I helped design have been fully constructed. Driving on a roadway that you had a direct hand in creating is surreal. Sometimes I’ll look at the car next to me and think, “If only they knew it was lil’ old me,” and laugh—but it truly is such a cool feeling.

Brains vs. Brawn

Q: What is the biggest misconception about people categorized as “smart” compared to those in the “muscle” category?

A: The biggest misconception is that people assume if you’re a brainiac, you know everything. Even with a high IQ, I’m constantly learning and expanding my knowledge.

The smartest thing someone can do is admit they don’t know something and then learn it. Confucius said, “He who asks a question is a fool for five minutes. He who does not ask the question is a fool for life.” I live by that—I always ask questions.

Beast Games Experience

Q: What season of Beast Games did you compete on?

A: Beast Games Season 2 – Strong vs. Smart.

Q: What team were you on?

A: Team Smart, all the way.

Q: What number were you on Beast Games Season 2?

A: Player #62.

Q: What made you apply to Beast Games Season 2?

A: I had been applying for Survivor for years because I love that show so much. After watching Beast Games Season 1, I absolutely loved it and decided to apply.

I’ve always known I have an insanely strong drive and determination to win. I also believe deeply in living life to the fullest—not in terms of money or fame, but in experiences. Doing things out of the norm is so good for the soul. Life is insane and beautiful, and when opportunities come your way, you have to take them.

Q: What was your reaction when you got the call to compete?

A: I was at my brother’s house for a Mother’s Day family gathering when I saw the email that said, “Congratulations, you’ve been selected for Beast Games Season 2!”

I genuinely thought I’d been ghosted by casting, so it was a complete shock. I stepped outside and literally jumped around by myself for a few minutes, overwhelmed with excitement and trying not to scream because I couldn’t tell anyone yet.

Q: What was the toughest part of being on Beast Games, and why?

A: Getting eliminated was the hardest part. I wanted the win so badly. From the moment I stepped onto Beast Games, I felt fearless. Even things I thought would scare me—like heights—didn’t faze me at all.

In one challenge, we were standing on trap doors about 30 feet up, and I was dancing on mine, joking that it was hardwood flooring. I was mentally unstoppable. It showed me how powerful mental strength can be when you truly want something.

Leadership & Strategy

Q: What’s your best advice for people applying to future Beast Games seasons?

A: Ask for feedback before submitting your application. Film a first draft and send it to friends or family—even if it feels awkward—and ask for honest feedback.

Your perception of yourself is skewed. Others can point out things you’d never notice. You might think a story is amazing, but it could come across differently to viewers. After years of failed castings, I learned that even if you’re the perfect fit, you still have to know how to sell yourself.

And most importantly: be completely yourself. Casting sees right through anything inauthentic.

Q: What are two words that describe your personality?

A: Bubbly Brilliance. I’m a total nerd who loves math, science, puzzles, and astronomy, but I’m also super girly, feminine, and outgoing. You can be smart and fun. You can do both.

Life Beyond Competition

Q: What do you like to do for fun?

A: I’m a PC gamer and love Call of Duty and Fortnite—I also live stream on Twitch. I enjoy puzzles, VR games, Pilates, and walking my two golden retrievers, Vegas and Elvis.

I also love giving back. I organize food drives, have volunteered with the Red Cross Disaster Action Team, and have sponsored a child through Children International for over six years.

Q: What is your go-to brain food while working on big projects?

A: High-protein, low-calorie, nutrient-rich food. Chicken breast is my favorite. I love making fun low-calorie meals like Thai chicken curry. Healthy eating became a lifestyle for me, not a diet—though I still enjoy the occasional Chili’s cheese pull.

Q: What celebrity would you want to eat lunch with?

A: Sabrina Carpenter. I’m in the top 0.01% of her listeners, and I once got mistaken for her at New York Fashion Week. I fully leaned into it—singing lyrics, taking photos—before realizing they weren’t joking. To this day, I wonder if they figured out they met “Temu Sabrina.”

Goals & Reflection

Q: What is your ultimate career or life goal?

A: My biggest dream is to inspire young girls to fall in love with math and science. I want to change what STEM looks like and who it’s for.

I want to create a fun, girly, interactive app that teaches math and science through play. I’d also love to build in-person programs and speak at schools to show girls that STEM can be creative, exciting, and empowering.

Q: How has Beast Games Season 2 changed your life?

A: It reminded me that growth never comes from staying comfortable. Saying yes to something completely outside my routine was life-changing.

My favorite challenge was the giant blocks team challenge because it perfectly combined Smart and Strong. I was the yellow team leader, created roles, led the strategy, and watched the team come together. That win was one of my proudest moments.

Q: What fact about you would surprise people?

A: I have the same IQ as Albert Einstein. I also design and sell notebooks, planners, and coloring books on Amazon under Trina Horvath Designs—and I’m currently working on a children’s book that encourages girls to love math and science.
