Climbing Dreams!

I woke up in the middle of the night and for some reason I thought it was funny to pose the question and response “¿Feliz David? Nah!”.  I continued that somnolent contemplation into building a story of a downtrodden fellow (David) who was not Feliz because he couldn’t send his project.  My last thought before I nodded off was that this drowsy deliberation would make for a funny song.

Not realizing in the middle of the night that there are almost no lyrics to Feliz Navidad, I was forced to look for a little more substance in order to prop this sleepy survey into a readable article.  That being said, let’s take a little look at the history of Feliz Navidad.

Jose Feliciano wrote this song in LA in 1970.  It’s a song of mixed joy and sadness.  The joy of Christmas Season and the sadness of being away from his family.  Feliciano recorded the song himself, playing the guitar and cuatro, a traditional Puerto Rican instrument. He recorded the vocals and guitar together, which he says is the best way to get a great performance.

The song is a mixture of repeating Spanish and English lyrics as follows.  “Feliz Navidad, Próspero año y felicidad” and “I wanna wish you a Merry Christmas from the bottom of my heart”.

While Feliz Navidad wasn’t an immediate hit. It eventually caught on though and it became one of the most recognizable Christmas songs ever.  So recognizable in fact that it is said to haunt some climbers in their sleep.

The parody of Feliz Navidad, Titled: Feliz David? Nah! was written in 2025 by Carrot immediately after waking up one cold early January morning.  To date, this song was not recorded, and as such has no popular acclaim!

Without further ado…

There has been talk of cutting a demo, but that may take this short lived dream that nobody asked for and turn it into a nightmare that nobody wants!

Thanks for a morning chuckle … I’m afraid that your song has the makings of an earworm for me, so I’m happy I haven’t heard it sung with the melody. 😂

Yep you have the earworm. Good luck, as the last one I had lasted almost a week and near drove me mad.
