Vertical Climbing…

I was thinking about it the other day, why are there not any climbing tv shows out there?!

I don’t mean reality climbing competition shows like “The Climb” or “The Summit.”

I also don’t mean rock climbing documentaries because there are a lot of those and they are great.

I mean a climbing tv show that has characters, filmed, and scripted. I googled rock climbing tv shows and found one that wasn’t a documentary series or reality competition series. It was called “Iwa-Kakeru!- Sport Climbing Girls.” The anime lasted one season in 2020 and looks like it’s still on some streaming services and YouTube so go check it out. I’m also thinking about checking it out myself. 

Think about how much rock climbing in general has grown over the past few years. If there was a tv show for kids and/or adults that follow someone on a journey of rock climbing or trying to join the rock-climbing team with all the other personal things going on in their lives. I feel like all of us rock climbers and even the non-rock climbers could relate to it.  

This could be a regular tv show and/or a cartoon with voice actors and actresses. Trust me there’s no limitations to this idea for the tv show. 

For filming purposes, they could easily make some rock walls and routes for a set or even film inside different climbing gyms. I think for the tv show they could get actors or actresses that may not be as well-known and let this be the start of their career. Professional climbers could make cameos but not as themselves, that would be too obvious. Imagine if they were like a janitor one episode or a climbing shoe salesperson. 

I’m just throwing different ideas out there, maybe one will land!
