So, I watched this basketball documentary a couple weeks ago called Imported! I recommend it to all basketball fans, it’s a more detailed inside look at overseas basketball and some players that didn’t make the NBA but still got an opportunity to play professionally overseas. First I want to clarify to everybody just because it’s not the NBA or G-league does not mean it’s not professional basketball. This documentary was so awesome to watch and see even more in depth about overseas basketball and all the different professional leagues all over the world outside of the NBA and you will see familiar faces that went overseas after their time in the NBA. I honestly would have tried going overseas after high school in any league that I could get in if I knew the information I do now. I would be sending footage of myself and talking to coaches in these other countries to try and get an opportunity even if it was just to say I made it professionally even if it was overseas! Here’s some details of the documentary…
Imported is a 2025 sports documentary directed by Fiz Olajide that follows American basketball players whose NBA dreams didn’t work out, leading them to continue their careers overseas. Rather than focusing only on basketball, the film explores how living abroad changes them both on and off the court.
The documentary centers on players including:
- Edgar Sosa
- James Gist
- Lindsey Pulliam
- Michael Creppy Jr.
- Marcus Williams
Key themes include:
- The reality of chasing a professional basketball career outside the NBA.
- Adjusting to unfamiliar countries, languages, and cultures.
- The financial and emotional sacrifices of playing internationally.
- How overseas leagues can offer both career opportunities and personal growth.
The film has a runtime of 1 hour 24 minutes, is rated TV-MA, and is available to stream on Hulu.
If you’re a basketball fan—especially if you’re interested in what happens to talented players who don’t make the NBA—it’s an insightful look at the global basketball world that often goes unseen.
They will show you a map at the end of this but these are all the different leagues around the world that are professional basketball…
Spain – Liga ACB (one of Europe’s strongest leagues)
Greece – Greek Basket League
Italy – Lega Basket Serie A
Turkey – Basketball Super League
France – LNB Pro A (Betclic Élite)
Germany – Basketball Bundesliga (BBL)
Serbia and the ABA League (Adriatic League)
VTB United League (primarily Russia and neighboring countries)
Japan – B.League
China – Chinese Basketball Association (CBA)
South Korea – Korean Basketball League (KBL)
Philippines – Philippine Basketball Association (PBA)
Australia – National Basketball League (NBL)
New Zealand – NBL

Argentina – Liga Nacional
Various leagues across Africa and the Middle East, where American imports are also common.
What I learned watching this as a long time basketball fan and love of the game is that there’s opportunities everywhere if you do not make the NBA. I also learned some of these fans in other countries take pride of their team to an extreme!
Overall out of five stars I give it five stars. It was entertaining, informative and just overall a fun watch! So stop what you are doing and go watch Imported on Hulu!

My son played AAU Basketball with the DeJuan Blair All Stars. Two kids from that team are playing in Europe and doing quite well. Pete Stobl is a friend who coaches in Europe and he has done quite well not only in his coaching but with his programs in Europe and in the US for rising basketball talent Thanks for sharing.
