Oh, the places we’ll go !

   Following the line of theDIHEDRAL’s Top “subject of choice”, we came up with the idea of making a list of the places we would like to visit for our group post of the week. We consider ourselves to be explorers at heart and great outdoor and adventure enthusiasts.  Therefore, because life is more thrilling and interesting when you get to know the world around you, we would like to share with you the Top 12 places that have gotten us daydreaming lately !

Carrot

Jordan

    I have never traveled to the middle east, but climbing in Wadi Rum, the opportunity to feast my eyes on the Petra, and enjoying the world-renown hospitality of Jordanian Culture, would surely offer a lifetime worth of memories.

Munising, Michigan

    This is the place I spent my summers growing up, I don’t make it back nearly as much as I’d like to, but throughout all my travels, I still contend that this little town can hold its own in terms of beauty with any place on the planet. My primary reason for including Munising on this list is my ambition to ice climb there as soon as possible. Noted as one of the most ideal ice climbing spots in the country, it would be a shame if I didn’t throw some axe in my own back yard.

 Norway

    I have spent time in Northern Europe, but never made it to Norway. The area offers views, adventures, culture, and a climate that just seems to suit me. The beauty of the landscape and the potential to gear up in Lofoten, have me salivating like one of Pavlov’s dogs.

Sarah

Roswell, New Mexico

     As a young teen I back packed through the mountains within miles of the famed Area 51. Although I was taken a back by the pure beauty that is New Mexico, the sky seemed to change at night. I miss the wonder and mystery of my time spent there. From star gazing to UFO lookout, I would give the shirt off my back to be thrown into those mountains again.

Black Forest, Germany

    A close runner up to my back packing days, would be the Black Forest. Two years ago I visited the area but never got the time to actually set my eyes on the forest. I’ve grown up reading the Brothers Grimm and the wonder those stories brought to me is what keeps my heart calling it’s name.

Alaska

    My last place, and one very many of you have probably gotten a chance to explore for yourselves. Alaska, the final frontier. Any part of it will fill the space in my heart. Half of me wants to slum it like Alexander Sumpertramp, while the other half wants to post up in a hunting lodge in the mountains. Soon! Very soon!

 Banff National Park, Canada

GOOGLE IT. NOW. Hiking all day and camping all night. This is where I’d want to be every spring and summer. If you’ve looked up images by now you’d know why it’s a no brainer to visit this gem.

Patagonia, South America

All the money in the world wouldn’t make me feel as rich as I would feel rich in memories after hiking, kayaking, and rock climbing in Patagonia. Have you googled this one yet? Have you booked your flight yet? Yes? Good.

 Yosemite National Park, California

    This place is the Mecca of rock climbing. The hiking trails are also a thing of beauty and the stargazing I’ve heard is a world class wonder. This is where I want to be. This is where I know beauty awaits.

Gaia

 Inca Trail, Peru

    In the year 2007, I had the opportunity to visit Machu Picchu with my family. Back then we had limited knowledge about the different options that existed to get to the Inca ruins, therefore we opted for the traditional “bus” alternative. Several years later I began to nurture my love for nature and to get involved in activities that sorround her. Being able to  visit the ruins in the past, I would love to explore that place again but in the same way the Incas did hundreds of years ago.

Loen, Norway

       Running on my aunt’s treadmill a couple of weeks ago, I was able to explore Loen and parts of the Lovatnet Lake through a 7 inch screen. I was fascinated by it and could not believe how captivated I was by what that tiny square was showing me. If running in Loen at my aunt’s house was incredible, I cannot imagine how amazing it would be to run in Loen, Norway !!!

Tiger’s Nest, Bhutan

    I must confess that around two years ago (pretty late), I discovered a cartoon called Avatar: The Last Airbender. I became an immediate fan of the show and promised myself that I would find a place in the world as similar as the “Air Temples”. Looking for that place, I stumbled upon Tiger’s Nest in Bhutan, South Asia. The hike and the opportunity to    visit a Buddhist monastery caught my attention. My heart pounds fast every time I think of the possibility to personally learn about their culture and spiritual ways. To visit a temple so sacred and with such history would be an honor and I am ready to go and pay my respects, when the time is right.
