This week’s edition of Women in Climbing is a little shorter, a littler stouter…but, really, when has a poem done you wrong?
Half
Who is the other half?
The wives, mothers, cooks, cleaners,
looking in the mirror trying not to laugh.
Dresses, pearls, romance all in a photograph,
weeping over the loss of surrendered bail ‘biners.
Who is the other half
who waits for instructions like an obedient calf?
Leaving real science to those with harsher demeanors,
looking in the mirror trying not to laugh
while they power walk the mall, keeping from riffraff,
despite the real danger provoked by dreamers.
Who’s the other half
waiting for! No one will stand on her behalf
as she explains her misdemeanors,
looking in the mirror trying not to laugh
at everyone else waiting for her to pour the carafe.
No! She does not need any interveners
who are the other half,
looking in the mirror, trying to laugh.
I like your poem and your photo is awesome. ❤️Joni
