You know there’s always a route or two that climbers get stuck on.
What I mean by get stuck on is that they are determined as a group to send the route as individuals but for the group also.
The difference one or two routes can make in a gym a difference that can bring a group of the climbers together is pretty magical. You can see four or more climbers sitting all taking turns to try and send that one specific route because not only did the route setter make it challenging yet doable, but most importantly fun.
We had one such route recently go up in the gym that I work at. A route that the director of setting Drew set, and I must say it’s a crowd favorite. But that’s what climbing is meant to do, bring people together, encourage one another, and learn from one another. Some people may think it’s just a route but one route can change the vibes of a climbing session. It can spread out a session to four or more people trying the route, taking turns one after another apart, yet together.
I must say the other morning seeing that and feeling that vibe around the new Orange route on auto belays was pretty awesome. Make sure that you thank your local route setters because they are an important part of the community of the gym and I will say Inspire Rock has a pretty awesome group of route setters that care about their members and new climbers starting the sport.
So, next time you are in your climbing gym see if you can find what I talked about today on that one or two routes that bring a lot of people together, working on it while hanging out, enjoying each others presence. Shoutout to my Inspire Tuesday and Thursday early morning crew/family and the Inspire route setters!
