I decided to just apply to the boom ball tour to see if I could get invited to the in-person in tryouts in San Antonio coming up. What is boom ball you ask?
it’s a new live, co-ed baseball entertainment league that launched in 2026. Think of it as fast-paced baseball mixed with a live sports show.
So if you’ve heard people compare it to Banana Ball, that’s understandable, the concept is similarly focused on making baseball more entertaining and accessible, but Boom Ball is its own independent league and isn’t affiliated with Banana Ball or MLB.
One interesting twist is that it has been described as “speed baseball.” The pitcher is on the same team as the batter, essentially throwing batting-practice-style pitches rather than competing against the hitter in the traditional way.
Here’s what makes Boom Ball different:
Six innings instead of the traditional nine.
Co-ed teams, with both men and women playing.
Games are designed to stay around two hours.
It uses unusual rules and challenges to keep the action moving.
There’s a Boom Fest pre-game experience with player appearances.
Stadium events can include fireworks, light shows, skydivers and other entertainment.
It’s specifically designed to be a family-friendly experience, rather than a traditional baseball game.
Now that you know a little more you see why I was just interested in sending an application. I’ve always been interested in entertainment all my life from years and years of applying to every game show on tv imaginable to every reality competition show imaginable. I was more interested if I would be invited to the open tryout which sadly I wasn’t but to be honest it was a long shot because I only played recreation/Intramural softball in college for a couple years so nothing serious. I also did it because it reminded me of the g-league tryouts open for everybody and you never know what could happen. But now I can say I applied to another entertainment/competition opportunity and it will only help me in future endeavors I want to pursue!
You know what I’m thinking for a future article…what if there was a group of climbers *cough cough* us theDIHEDRAL team that was like the Savannah bananas or dude perfect on entertainment and fun into our climbing and provide people a different aspect but a entertaining aspect while making some money doing what we love also. Just something to think about!
