Glop!

In the days of our Dirtbag Diner (our former cooking show aimed at providing simple meals for fellow dirtbags) this recipe would have been the star of the show!  Mush is essentially a glorified overnight oats, but that glorification does a lot of heavy lifting because when done right, mush is glorious!

There is a brand called Mush and their mush is spectacular, it comes in several different flavors including apple, blueberry, vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and banana bread, the only issue is that Mush brand mush is $2.50 for .45oz.  While it is delicious, $2.50/.45oz is insane. That’s $5.00/oz!  No dirtbag in their right mind would knowingly pay that much money for something that’s not a protein bar!

Worry not my friends, theDIHEDRAL have you covered!  We have perfected a copycat Mush that has all the taste at just a fraction of the cost.  To avoid any trademark issues let’s just call it Glop…Dirtbag Glop!

Dirtbag Glop

  • quick oatmeal (about 1.5 cups)
  • soy milk (about 1 cup) – any type of milk/milk variety you enjoy
  • honey or dates for sweetness (1 tbsp)
  • cocoa powder (1-2 tbsp depending on your preference) – baking type, non-sugar
  • vanilla extract (1/2 tsp)
  • almond extract (optional)
  • pinch of salt

Put in a jar and shake. Leave in fridge overnight

This will yield about 24oz of Glop.  On the high end, the price for a single yield of Glop is about $1 or about $.04/oz. That is 62.5 times cheaper than Mush.  The flavor combinations are almost endless.  Perhaps you’d prefer match over cocoa.  Go for it!  Maybe you want to add banana to the original mix.  By all means!  Want it extra chocolatey?  Why not use chocolate soy milk?  Toss in some apples and cinnamon or blueberries.  Want more protein? Add some of your protein powder to the mix.  Peanut Butter?  Of course you can add peanut butter!  Just keep tweaking the recipe to your hearts delight!

And it is all so easy.  It is a perfect breakfast for almost anyone.  It also makes for the perfect lunch and dinner, so you may need more jars!

Once you try Glop it will become immediately clear that when Odysseus said: “Apollo, give me glory”, he was speaking about the glory of Glop!
